Methanol Moonshine Sid Middlemass

It’s 50 years ago this year that the man dubbed “Scarem Sid” claimed his greatest ever victory – The 1970 Craven Filter National Drivers’ Championship Grand Final. In the process he smashed Johnny Harvey’s long standing 50-lap record and in later years would go on to write his name into the history books as one of Australia’s most ferocious, revered and loved Speedway drivers. 15th in the all-time feature wins list at the Sydney Royale (from more than 300 drivers who raced at the track) with ten victories from 211 feature races – he’s one of only four drivers to have raced in over 200 main events. Now we celebrate his 90th birthday. A passionate, dedicated and proud family man who would line-up even now in a feature field if someone gave him the chance he’s the one and only Sid Middlemass.
